Every year, 2K Sports promises that this is the year WWE 2K finally gets it right. With WWE 2K26 on PlayStation 5, they've actually delivered. This is the most complete, most polished, and most fun wrestling game in over a decade — and it's not particularly close.
What's New in WWE 2K26
The headline addition is the completely rebuilt MyGM Mode, which now spans multiple years, lets you draft from a pool of 250+ Superstars, negotiate contracts, book rivalries, and manage arena upgrades. It's the depth that fans have been begging for since the original GM Mode on PS2, and it's genuinely addictive — you'll lose hours just booking WrestleMania cards.
The Showcase Mode this year focuses on the Bloodline saga, letting you relive Roman Reigns' historic title reign from 2020 through 2025. The cutscenes blend real WWE footage with in-game graphics seamlessly, and the objectives are creative enough to keep you engaged through all 20+ matches.
Gameplay: Smoother Than Ever
The core gameplay has been refined rather than reinvented. The reversal system now has a stamina component — spam reversals early and you'll be defenceless in the final minutes of a match. It adds genuine strategy to what was previously a button-mashing contest.
WarGames returns with improved multi-person AI, and the new Ambulance Match and Punjabi Prison match types add variety to an already deep match type roster. The ladder match physics have been completely rebuilt — ladders now wobble, tip, and collapse in ways that feel genuinely dangerous.
Roster: 250+ Superstars
The base roster of 250+ Superstars is the largest in series history. Every current main-roster star is present, alongside a deep legends pool including Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and dozens more. The character models are stunning on PS5 — John Cena's entrance pyro in 4K/60fps is a genuine showstopper.
DLC is already confirmed for six post-launch packs, which is frustrating, but the base game is generous enough that it doesn't feel like content is being withheld.
How to Play WWE 2K26: Beginner's Guide
Basic Controls: Square/X for strikes, X/A for grapples, Circle/B for Irish whip, Triangle/Y for running. Hold L2/LT to target a specific opponent in multi-person matches.
Signature & Finisher System: Build momentum by landing moves and reversals. Your Signature move unlocks first (shown by a flashing icon), then your Finisher. Store up to three Finishers for clutch moments — a triple-stacked Finisher on a weakened opponent is almost always a pin.
Reversal Timing: The reversal window appears as a brief flash around your character. Early game, aim to reverse every third or fourth strike to conserve stamina. In the final stretch, save reversals for Signatures and Finishers only.
MyRise Tips: In the career mode, choose your promo options carefully — heel or face alignment affects which rivalries open up. Prioritise the main event rivalries for the best cutscenes and match stipulations.
MyFaction & Online
MyFaction, the card-collecting mode, has been expanded with weekly live events and a new Faction Wars tournament structure. It's still the most monetised part of the game, but the free card drops are generous enough that free-to-play progression feels viable.
Online play is the smoothest it's ever been on PS5, with rollback netcode finally implemented for 1v1 matches. Lag-induced phantom reversals are largely a thing of the past.
Verdict
WWE 2K26 is the wrestling game fans have been waiting for. The rebuilt MyGM Mode alone is worth the price of admission, the gameplay refinements make every match feel meaningful, and the visual presentation is the best in series history. Minor DLC concerns aside, this is an easy recommendation for any wrestling fan.
